Making a Refugium

List of parts needed for a 10 gallon refugium:
10 gallon tank
2 tubes of GE Silicon I, Window and Door
Caulking Gun
(5) 10x12" panes of glass, 3/32" thick
Mag 5 return pump
Overflow box
Glass cutter/ grinder if you can get one.

Drain Plumbing: This drains directly into the refugium. It is completely 1" piping. A ball valve is placed in the middle to control flow.

10' of 1" PVC piping
(1) 1" ball valve
(2) 1" 45° angles

Return Plumbing: This will start with a piece that makes it go from 1/2" to 3/4". Then all plumbing will be 3/4". There is a Tee just after the pump to another ball valve to help reduce flow without putting pressure on the pump. There are ball valves on each return to adjust the flow. There is a ball valve in the middle to shut everything off.

10 to 15' of 3/4" PVC piping
(1) 1/2 female threaded/ 3/4 female slip
(4) 34" ball valves
(2) 3/4" tees
(9) 3/4" 90° elbows
(2) 3/4" 45° angles

  

Step 1: 

Cut 5 glass baffles to 10x12" to fit the

10 gallon aquarium.

 

 

 

 

 

   

Step 2:  Silicone baffles into place.  On the raised baffles, leave approx. 1" from the bottom of the tank .
